AUTUMN🍂 Old wives' advice and herbs for autumn coughs, COLDs and fever in children 👩🏽‍⚕️

9.10.2025

🍂 In autumn, children start to moan a lot more. They have a sore throat, cough, runny nose or have a fever. You don't have to run to the pharmacy for medicine right away, try nature first. Herbs and aromatherapy can successfully fight off many viruses❤

FEVER 🆘 If it is not too high, you do not need to panic. Fever is the body's way of signaling that it has started to fight the disease. It is actually the body's defense mechanism that the body has at its disposal to cope with the disease. As soon as the temperature rises, all metabolic processes accelerate and viruses and bacteria begin to "burn". Suitable herbs: black, lime tea.

Fever tea: Mix linden blossom with elderflower. Pour one tablespoon with half a liter of boiling water, let it steep for fifteen minutes, strain, you can sweeten with honey and add lemon. Drink hot.

Lemon essential oil can also be used to reduce fever. You can drop it into an aroma lamp in the sick child's room or dilute it in virgin vegetable oil and rub it on the child's back, chest, and feet 3 times a day.

INFLUENZA! A common contagious viral disease that mainly affects the respiratory tract. With the flu, children usually have a headache, limbs, a runny nose, or mucus in the paranasal sinuses. Bed rest is the most important thing. In the case of treatment with aromatherapy, it is necessary to determine whether it is a hot or cold type of flu. In the cold type, there is an increased temperature often associated with chills, muscle pain, in the hot type there is a higher temperature up to fever, strong thirst and sweating. Suitable herbs: eucalyptus, thyme, tea tree, chamomile. You can create a massage mixture from the herbs and briefly massage the shoulders, neck, chest and soles of the feet. It can also be dripped into a bath, aroma lamp or inhaled from a handkerchief.

Flu tea: Peel a piece of fresh ginger root and cut it into small cubes. Pour half a liter of water over it and let it boil for about ten minutes on low heat. You can sweeten the broth with honey. It should be drunk warm.

IMMUNITY❤ It is important to strengthen children's defenses, especially in the autumn months, when it is rainy and cold outside. With autumn, the burden of external pathogens that attack the child increases. Suitable herbs: purple coneflower, Scots pine.

Add five drops of Scots pine, tea tree and niaouli to a neutral bath oil, honey or cream and pour into a bathtub with warm water. Practice these baths every evening. You can also drip ravensara essential oil into an aroma lamp, which is one of the strongest antiviral oils, which is especially effective as a preventative measure or in the early stages of viruses.

COUGH💥 If the child "just" coughs, it is not a chronic cough and there is no fever, you can safely try traditional recipes. We distinguish between a wet cough (productive) and a dry, irritating, or acute cough. If the cough lasts longer than three months a year, then the cause may be a sinus infection and poor immunity. Suitable herbs: licorice, broad-leaved plantain.

Massage mixture for wet cough: mix 18 drops of eucalyptus, 10 drops of ravensara, 12 drops of cypress and 3 drops of hyssop with 100 ml of cold-pressed almond oil. Then rub the mixture on the child's chest and back twice a day.

Massage mixture for dry cough: 15 drops of benzoin, 10 drops of rosemary, 1 drop of myrtle, 10 drops of lavender spaik and 5 drops of laurel mix with 100 ml of almond base oil. Again, rub into the chest and back twice a day. Both mixtures are suitable for children from 2 years old, but the dosage for children under five years old should be half!

RHINITIS❌ It is not good to suppress a runny nose, but it is advisable to support the body to get rid of toxic substances. This means that you should not apply nasal sprays excessively to your child's nose, as this will cause swelling of the mucous membrane and possibly even a habit in the future. Suitable herbs: eucalyptus, thyme.

Rhinitis tea: Mix 30 g chamomile, 30 g linden blossom and 20 g thyme. Pour one tablespoon of the mixture with a quarter liter of boiling water and let it steep for ten minutes. Then strain, you can sweeten with honey.

Inhalation of essential oils is also suitable: add 1 to 2 drops of eucalyptus or pine to hot water or vincent, put a towel over the head and let the child inhale deeply for at least five minutes. These essential oils are also suitable for baths, but first you must mix the essential oils with hydrophilic oil, honey or full-fat milk, and only then pour them into the water. For very young children ( from 9 weeks to 2 years ), we recommend dripping Eucalyptus radiata into an aroma lamp , which is a softer type of eucalyptus. It is more pleasant for children.
